These two volumes look at the different types of films made over a 100 year period in the East of England region.

The films are held in the East Anglian Film Archive at the University of East Anglia in Norwich.

The books examine the types of films that represent the history of Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Norfolk and Suffolk in the twentieth century,

and show the fabric of the region; industries; crafts; transport; and ways of life; as well as how people lived, worked and played,

The films range from home movies to cinema non-fiction material, from locally produced  films to those made by visiting film makers.

Types covered include advertising; educational; instructional, promotional, and much much more. The output of the regional ITV station (Anglia) and BBC East are well represented.

The books look at some of the film makers, and examines the importance of their work to the cultural make-up of the region;

the local history relevance of the films, and the valuable historical research aspect that exists with this material in the East Anglian Film Archive.

The third, and last volume, How Films Were Made and Shown 1895-2015 (published 2015) looks at the technical side of motion picture film and how it worked.

The three books form a trilogy of what motion picture film was used for, and technically how it worked.
