Dirt

Dirt on the printing master, often called sparkle, behaves similarly to scratches in that dirt on a negative will be white in the final print.

Dirt on a positive will appear as black in the final print.

Dirt physically stuck to a print will appear black on the screen.

Examination of the print over a bench will tell us if the dirt is printed into the print.
