Checking the equipment

If we are going to quality check work and report our results back to the appropriate departments of the laboratory we must be sure that our equipment is 100% with regard to its operation.

If our projection equipment has poor sound quality we cannot judge the quality of the film.

The items that must be correct are:

 Steadiness

 Resolution

 Light Sources

Lamp correctly adjusted to give an even field of the correct colour temperature and brightness.

Information for the correct levels can be found in the documents issued by the standards authority, for example the S.M.P.T.E.

 Sound equipments

Sound equipments correctly set up using test films so that it scans the correct area, the optics correctly adjusted and the electronics is in good order.
Sound equipment for original soundtracks should be set up so that they can reproduce exactly the characteristics the sound had at the time of production.

 Screens

The screen we are using must be clean, and it must have characteristics of reflectance that summed up with the light source of the projector must give us standard viewing conditions.
