A file of the Description, Operation and Maintenance Manual is available as a .pdf file.

BH 607/Bell and Howell 607 D and J.pdf

This is a pdf file of the original booklet Bell & Howell Standard Continuous Film Printers As well as detailing the printer workings it describes how to operate the printer. My copy has pages 29 and 30 missing.  I am grateful to DOMINIC CASE of Atlab  in Australia for supplying me with pdf files of the missing pages.

This printer was the standard motion picture printer used in laboratories until the introduction of the Model C which had mechanical light valves to give automatic light changes.  The Model C used a  Bell & Howell Punch Tape to make the light changes.  The Model D (35mm) and the Model J (16mm) used the information from a hand written card which was transferred to a pre-select lever (see illustration).
