16 mm Film.

16 mm film has one perforation for each frame of the image The same shape of perforation is used for all 16mm film but the pitch depends upon the use: negative pitch or short pitch is 7.605 mm and for print the standard pitch is 7.620 mm. [see 2.1.1.3 below for an explanation of pitch]

Either 1 row of perforations (for sound print film) '1R' or 2 rows (silent film) '2R' are used. Camera negative was originally 2R but especially from the 1960's onwards a lot of colour news film was used with a magnetic sound track over one of the perforation positions and from this time 1R camera negative material became more common.
