8 mm Film: Standard 8

The original amateur movie gauge, devised in the 1930's, used 16 mm film with double the frequency of perforations. This was exposed in two passes through the camera, one in one direction on one side of the film and then back along the other side. The film was slit into two strips 8 mm wide after processing and the two lengths joined.
