The most satisfactory way of quality checking a film is to project it on a projector that we have correctly set up and is in good mechanical order. If we are quality checking a print we have duplicated from another print then projecting the original print side by side with the duplicated print is the ideal way to compare them. We will have to bear in mind that the original print might have defects that we have eliminated during duplicating. For example wet printing can eliminate scratches present on the original print.

Projection masks
Various masks should be available so we can project the right area for the different formats.
Some quality checkers have a mask that they have cut away to expose the sound track area and also the edges of the perforations. Although these give a less pleasing result on the screen it does give us a good deal of extra information. If we hear the sound quality is poor and we can see the track is very light we know the problem straight away.
